SKY PINNICK | DIRECTOR
Sky Pinnick has made a career out of being in the wrong place at exactly the right time. He has a healthy disregard for “the way it’s usually done” and a habit of pointing the camera where nobody else thought to look. He did a respectable stint producing at Microsoft Studios, then traded the corporate badge for the Wasatch Mountains, where Rage Films was born: the adrenaline-soaked action sports arm of Rage Productions. It grew into one of the original independent action sports labels, with 12 feature ski films that toured the world and helped define the look of a generation of ski movies.
The ski films put Rage on the map, but the same eye was working the whole time on commercials for Triumph, Nike, Garmin, Porsche, Harley-Davidson and PetSmart, bringing big-mountain energy to brands that usually play it straight. Along the way Sky directed Boom Varietal, a feature documentary about wine, of all things, that went into worldwide distribution, produced Rally America for NBC Sports, and shot on ICON’s cult Motorcycle vs. Car Drift Battle series and The Raiden Files.
On location or in the edit bay, the rule is the same: if it’s been done before, do it differently.
